Finding The Most Social Weed Strains
January 27, 2023
Although humans are supposed to be a “social species,” many people dread going to public places. In fact,
recent data
suggests at least 12% of Americans have a social anxiety disorder (SAD). Even people who aren’t diagnosed with SAD may feel a bit “on edge” in social settings. Thankfully, a dose of weed may be a simple “quick fix” to turn wallflowers into the life of the party.
However, people need to be extremely cautious about which cannabis strains they use before a get-together. Not every cannabis hybrid has the same effects, and some may
increase
a patient’s “party
paranoia
.” Anyone thinking about using cannabis for a social occasion must know how to pick the best strain.
Indica or Sativa: What’s The More Suitable Social Strain?
To this day, dispensaries divide cannabis cultivars into two categories: sativas vs. indicas. While there’s considerable debate over the merits of this classification system, most weed enthusiasts believe sativa-leaning hybrids are the better choice for party atmospheres. Why? Well, sativa strains tend to make people feel more energized and sociable. By contrast, indicas often make people sleepy and “zoned out”—which isn’t a good look for a social atmosphere.
So, does that mean sativas are always the better choice for social events? Not necessarily. Heavy sativas have a nasty habit of triggering undesirable side effects like a racing mind and paranoia. Some intense sativas may even provoke psychedelic experiences. Anyone unfamiliar with sativa hybrids must experiment with these strains in a controlled setting to see how they react.
In general, it’s ideal to use cannabis strains with just a slight sativa edge and moderate THC percentages (sub-20%) before a party. The light sativa boost typically makes people feel alert without veering into paranoia. Look for strains with a 60/40 or 70/30 sativa-to-indica ratio to increase the odds of feeling just enough of a “head buzz” to enhance social experiences.
For those struggling to find social cannabis strains, here are a few names that have rave reviews in the weed community:
Can CBD Strains Make You More Sociable?
If patients find THC increases their social anxiety, they may want to consider smoking a CBD-rich strain. Following the passage of the 2018 US Farm Bill, it’s getting easier to find CBD hemp flowers all over the nation. Since hemp hybrids have ≤ 0.3% delta-9 THC, there’s no risk they will trigger paranoia or panic attacks.
There’s also
mounting evidence
that CBD has a positive impact on anxiety disorders. Researchers are still debating how CBD affects the brain, but some studies suggest this cannabinoid can increase natural feel-good hormones such as serotonin and anandamide. Using a CBD flower may help people feel a clear-headed sense of calm in stress-inducing situations.
Nowadays, it’s not too challenging to find a wide variety of CBD cannabis cultivars with the same scents and flavors as iconic hybrids. For instance, many hemp farmers are now putting out CBD renditions on Sour Diesel, GSC, and Purple Haze. There are also dozens of classic CBD strains, such as Cannatonic and Harlequin. Anyone who wants a non-psychedelic experience can start experimenting with these CBD cultivars and see how they alter their anxiety levels.
